| Choir should be encouraged (letter in Worthing Herald
July 1, 1999)
HAVING attended two of their concerts, it is my belief the Worthing Philharmonic Choir does not get the publicity it deserves. Recently, they gave a concert at Shoreham, which was well attended. One lady was heard to say, 'Well, if that's the Worthing sound we should like to hear more of it'. A gentleman said how good it was to hear so many voices live - so much better than recorded music. He is, of course, referring to the 70-plus voices presenting a concert of carefully selected music under its choral director, Donovan Brown. Worthing is not a large town so it is something of a triumph to have upwards of 80 people prepared to give up their time to present entertaining music. To say it's a civilising activity is putting it mildly. Whatever your mood, choral music as presented by Worthing Philharmonic Choir is wholly beneficial and should be encouraged. |
